Other Mommy Wins the Weekend and Loses the Room: D+ CinemaScore
$28 million opening, 20% on Rotten Tomatoes, and the worst audience grade since Megalopolis. A win that feels like a warning.
Technically, Universal and Blumhouse-Atomic Monster's Other Mommy won the weekend — an estimated $28 million opening off a $13 million Friday across 3,365 screens. Technically, that's a number one movie. Spiritually? Audiences handed it a D+ CinemaScore, the lowest grade the pollster has recorded for any film since Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis got the same mark back in September 2024. Critics were no kinder: 20% on Rotten Tomatoes, 47% audience score.
The good news for the studio: it only cost $19 million to make, so it'll clear break-even by the end of its run. The bad news: with reception this frosty, don't expect much of a second weekend — and don't be shocked if the Monday actuals land closer to $20 million.
Meanwhile, The Social Reckoning reckons with $6M
Sony's follow-up to the Oscar-winning The Social Network managed just $6 million — less than a third of its predecessor's $22.4 million debut back in 2010, before inflation. On a $30 million net budget co-financed by Alcon, and with Spider-Man: Brand New Day money cushioning the studio, Sony can take the hit. But ouch.
